Re-flashing your fon router for full Linux/ official firmware usage in 7 steps
( FULL CLEAN LOAD )
Things you will need:
fon router
WRT54GV4.0_4.20.7_US_code.exe from linksys.com (WRT54Gv4 software upgrader)
Hyperwrt_G_Thibor14.bin (Hyper WRT for WRT54Gv1-v4/GL models, or your favorite Linux code)
Windows Machine with a network connection and a working web browser

Step 1.
(adding your computer to the same network as the router)
After you have your computer plugged into the FON router, change your local IP address to 192.168.10.2 or higher, use 255.255.255.0 as your subnet and
192.168.10.1 as your gateway (the fon router)
Step 2.
(login into the router and checking functions)
Use your web browser and connect to http:\\192.168.10.1 and log in with the username "root" and password "admin".
this will bring you into your fon router and they will ask you to set a password.
go ahead and enter a easy to remember password and login to the router.
Step 3.
updating to a different firmware so you can re-flash the router)
you will need to find the Administration area of the router where Firmware Upgrade is Select Hyperwrt_G_Thibor14.bin you have saved on your local machine.
make sure you have clear NVRAM selected and start the upgrade (takes a few minutes)
Step 4.
(resetting any passwords/ existing settings in the router)
you will need to manually hold down the reset button on the router and reset the hardware after the upgrade and let the router reboot.
Step 5.
(adding your computer to the same network as the router)
change your local IP address to 192.168.1.2 or higher, use 255.255.255.0 as your subnet and
192.168.1.1 as your gateway (the fon router)
Step 6.
(using the linksys TFTP program to re-flash the router)
run WRT54GV4.0_4.20.7_US_code.exe and leave the box open
unplug and reboot the router
input 192.168.1.1 for the router ip address and have the program TFTP upgrade the router.
let the router reboot and re-login to the router with http:\\192.168.1.1 as the address
Step 7.
under Administration use the Firmware Upgrade to upgrade to Hyperwrt or whatever WRT54GL firmware you desire.
